Happy New Years Interweb.

Another year on the books. Happy New Year. 2012 for real.

There are so many things worth writing about these days ... like so many. I've been on "vacation" essentially and it's been awesome. Since Christmas I've done a lot of exploring new local sites. I've done a serious amount of coffee drinking. I solid amount of adult beverage consuming. One thing I've done less of? Consume bacon. Shocker right?

Another recent blessing? My friend Meghan decided to spend New Years with me in the North End. Holla for great ideas! Seriously, I was so pumped about this. I'm not a big New Years person. It's the same reason I'm not a big Halloween or St Patrick's Day person. I just don't get excited about these holidays that come with high expectations. I'd rather keep mine nice and low, herd some of my friends into one place, and laugh a lot.

So, that's what we did.

In fact, we had so much fun that I only took 2 pictures that night.... and both were of Meghan prodding our roast chicken, that I named Greta. So instead.... I offer you pictures from the next morning.

It ended up just being a handful of people getting cozy in my living room but it was awesome. Meghan and I made a pretty tasty dinner. So I'll tell you what we made and then I'll give you a few highlights. Okay? Great.
  • Roast Chicken (aka Greta) ... whole bunch of spices, garlic, shallot, butter shoved right under her skin. Oh, and half an orange. Yep, just shoved that right up in there.
  • Avocado and Clementine Salad .... with the most incredible dressing ever and homemade croutons
  • Wild mushroom soup
So now for the highlights?
  • Ove the summer Meghan and I found ourselves at the Honig Winery in Napa ... I had a bottle of this wine saved for a special occasion .... and so while we made dinner we polished off a bottle of Honig's delish Sav Blanc.
  • Meghan sticking her fingers under Greta's skin. I seriously couldn't look without laughing. I was perfectly content to play sous chef for this operation.
  • What made the salad dressing so awesome you ask? Champagne Vinegar. Yes, this exists. Yes, get your own right now. I had no idea about this and I can't wait to use it again.
  • There was a team Spotify playlist that was created.... and now I can listen to it whenever I want. Yespleaseandthankyou.
  • After we had all polished off our dinner and were working on some cupcakes.... it seemed appropriate to make some cookies. I don't burn cookies.... and I torched them. Oops.
  • During our family Christmas party gift swap, I ended up with the "Geekbox" and this seemed like a good occasion to break that out. Its essentially these like small wooden puzzles. (Here's a Youtube link) .... I now have like a bazillion small wooden puzzle pieces and no complete puzzles.
I'm sure there are more good moments to remember but we'll just let them stay hidden.

All in all, I might put it down as my most favorite New Years on record. A handful of friends (new and old). Cozy clothes. Champagne and burnt cookies.
